BTA (Born-Taylor Association) drilling is generally preferred for larger diameter holes (typically > 0.8 inches or 20mm) and when faster material removal rates are paramount. It uses an internal chip evacuation system, which allows for higher feed rates and can often produce excellent surface finishes and straightness, albeit sometimes slightly less precise than gun drilling for very small diameters or extreme straightness requirements.
Verifying deep-hole geometry requires specialized metrology.
